SEMINOLE NATION · INDIAN TERRITORY · 1898

A buried American story.
A film that refuses to look away.

When Rebecca follows her family tree into a history she never knew existed, the past becomes more than something written in a book. It becomes hers.

The Tree is a historical drama told across two eras: a modern search for identity and the 1898 crime hidden inside one family’s past.

One discovery.
Two timelines.
A past that was
never finished.

When Rebecca James follows an unexpected DNA result from Chicago to Oklahoma, a chance discovery inside a roadside antique shop opens a history her family never gave her.

It begins with a murder in Indian Territory in 1898—and leads into a truth powerful people worked hard to bury. As past and present converge, Rebecca must decide what it means to inherit a story no one wanted remembered.

Set against a territory struggling over land, identity and its future, The Tree is a mystery of lineage, justice and the cost of silence.

Inspired by actual eventsSome histories are discovered. Others have been waiting for the right person to find them.
A story nearly lost.
A truth still waiting.

Discovered through research in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the project grew from one question: how could an event of this consequence vanish from common memory?

The Tree explores who controls the record—and what descendants inherit when history is left unfinished.

Quiet. Unflinching.
Impossible to forget.

01

Truth before spectacle

The film will not exploit the atrocity at its center. Its power lives in choice, testimony, aftermath and consequence.

02

Rooted in the record

Research draws from court records, government documents, period newspapers and published historical scholarship.

03

Built with respect

Cultural and language consultation are commitments of the production—not decoration added after the fact.
